Workshop 3.4: Female Power in Software Engineering. How to be successful with diversity in the team
It makes a big difference how the topic of diversity in the team is perceived. Has it received little attention so far, is it understood as a challenge? Or is it seen as a success factor - and there is a concrete strategy, key figures and measures?
One thing is certain: Diversity awareness and practice in the ICT sector leave a lot to be desired. Currently, the share of women in the ICT sector in Austria is only 18 percent, according to an industry study by the VÖSI (Association of Austrian Software Innovations). The more technical jobs become, the lower the proportion of women. For example, the share of women in the IT security sector is only one percent. The topic of women and IT is a major concern for VÖSI. At the beginning of 2020, the Special Interest Group WOMENinICT was founded.
The goal is to make women more visible and to get more women and girls interested in IT jobs - and thus to increase the proportion of women in the industry. But it's not just about men and women: According to all studies, it is now a clear fact that diverse teams work more successfully and achieve better results.
